Bernt Arne Ødegaard

This post is a tribute to Professor Bernt Arne Ødegaard, who at the time of writing this post works at the University of Stavanger, in Stavanger, Norway. More details of the man can be found at his personal home page http://finance.bi.no/~bernt/

His book "Financial Numerical Recipes in C++" is the basis of this blog. Other Mathematical Finance, Econometric and Monetary Philosophical Articles will appear on the pishukan blog.

From some internet geneology site
The family name Ødegaard is Norwegian. It is habitational name from any of numerous farmsteads, chiefly in eastern Norway, named Øygard, Øygarden, Ødegård, Ødegaard, from øyde ‘deserted’ + gård ‘enclosure’, ‘farm’. These, for the most part, are farmsteads that were left deserted after the Black Death of 1349.

An Interesting Possibility
The English word Gard~en could actually mean a "small farm". That the English do have significant Viking DNA only increases the possibility of this being true. And what do you get from a garden? Some vegetables which can be used for cooking at home. Maybe a few to sell and add to the domestic financial effort. I find it immensely semantic that the book is named "Financial Numerical Recipes in C++".

I am presently using the April 2007 edition.
